Srinagar, October 3, 2025 : In a major crackdown on narcotics, Kashmir police arrested five alleged drug peddlers and seized a substantial quantity of contraband across the Valley on Friday, officials said.
In Anantnag district, police acted on information that Ghulam Nabi Bhat of Sehgund Saller had hoarded a large quantity of narcotics. A raid at his residence led to the seizure of 24.7 kg of ganja, and Bhat was taken into custody.
In Kupwara district, Tariq Sajad Khan, a resident of Keran, was apprehended during a routine check, with a substantial amount of charas-like substance recovered from him.
Central Kashmir’s Budgam district witnessed the arrest of two suspects, Mohammad Yaseen Rather (Nasrullapora) and Muzaffar Ahmad Malik (Soibugh), at a checkpoint in Hakermulla. The police seized 7.63 grams of a heroin-like substance from the duo.
Meanwhile, in Pulwama district’s Awantipora area, police raided a house in Chersoo, recovering 16 kg of bung powder and 26 grams of charas, leading to the arrest of the house owner, Aqib Rashid Sheikh.
Authorities said these actions are part of the police’s ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and maintain law and order in the Union Territory.
