JAMMU, OCTOBER 23, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Police have taken action against traffic personnel accused of allegedly collecting money from truck drivers after a video purportedly showing the incident went viral on social media.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Traffic, Jammu, Amit Bhasin initiated action after the video, reportedly recorded on Thursday in the Greater Kailash area of Jammu, circulated across various social media platforms.
According to official sources, the personnel seen in the video have been removed from their traffic duties and attached to headquarters with immediate effect. A formal inquiry has also been ordered to investigate the allegations.
Formal Inquiry Ordered Into Bribery Allegations
The action follows allegations that traffic personnel were collecting money from truck drivers. The viral footage prompted the Traffic wing to examine the matter and initiate proceedings.
Officials said strict disciplinary action would follow if the allegations were substantiated during the inquiry.
Authorities reiterated that accountability and transparency must remain central to public service, stressing that no one is above the law.
The allegations are under investigation, and the inquiry will determine the facts and responsibility of the personnel concerned.
Previous Action in Kathua Also in Focus
The latest development comes after a similar incident in September, when Jammu and Kashmir Police disengaged a Special Police Officer (SPO) from service and ordered a departmental inquiry against another police personnel.
That action followed the circulation of a video allegedly showing a police officer demanding money from a truck driver as an entry fee at a checkpoint in the Lakhanpur area of Kathua district.
The two incidents have brought renewed attention to allegations of illegal payments at checkpoints and the importance of effective oversight of personnel deployed on traffic and checkpoint duties.
Accountability and Public Trust
The prompt action in the Jammu case signals that allegations of misconduct are being taken up for examination. However, the final outcome will depend on the findings of the formal inquiry.
Ensuring transparent investigations and appropriate disciplinary action wherever wrongdoing is established remains essential to maintaining public confidence in law enforcement.
