JAMMU, October 4, 2025 : In a major crackdown on corruption within the police force, the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday trapped and arrested a Head Constable posted at Police Station Mahore for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹8,000.
According to an official statement, the case came to light after a complainant reported that he had been granted interim bail by the Court on July 25, 2025, with the condition to report daily at PS Mahore between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. However, HC Mahroof Ahmed allegedly harassed the complainant, kept him detained beyond the prescribed time, and demanded a bribe for his timely release.
The complainant claimed that ₹8,000 was initially paid on October 1, 2025, inside the police station premises. Two days later, the accused reportedly demanded another ₹12,000 for releasing their tractor and allowing timely exit during reporting hours, later negotiated to ₹8,000.
Unwilling to pay further, the victim approached the ACB, which verified the allegations and registered FIR No. 02/2025 U/S 7 of the PC Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) at ACB Udhampur. A trap team led by a Gazetted Officer subsequently caught the Head Constable red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses.
The accused was immediately taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.
