Srinagar, October 13, 2025 : Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on Monday asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not resort to any unfair practices in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir, while expressing confidence that MLAs will vote by their conscience in the larger interest of the Union Territory.
Speaking to media persons after accompanying the three BJP candidates who filed their nominations for the October 24 polls to four Rajya Sabha seats, Dr. Singh said the BJP firmly believes in democratic ethics and transparency.
“It is wrong to say that we (BJP) will incite cross-voting or indulge in buying votes. The BJP is a democratic party, we believe in and follow democratic principles,” Singh emphasized.
He added that if legislators introspect sincerely, their conscience will guide them to support the BJP, as the future of Jammu and Kashmir is secure under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Dr. Singh, who serves as the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, said the three BJP nominees — Sat Sharma, Ali Mohammad Mir, and Rakesh Mahajan — represent a blend of experience, dedication, and commitment to public service.
“All three have devoted their lives to public welfare and development. We hope the MLAs will stand with them, especially since there is no party whip in this election,” he said.
Highlighting the Modi government’s focus on Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Singh noted that the region has remained a top priority for the Prime Minister since 2014.
“Even after the devastating floods in 2014, Prime Minister Modi spent his first Diwali in Jammu and Kashmir — a gesture that reflected his emotional bond and commitment to the people of the region,” he recalled.
Dr. Singh further stressed the need to strengthen BJP’s representation in the Rajya Sabha to ensure that Jammu and Kashmir’s voice resonates effectively in the national discourse.
