Srinagar, November 20, 2025 : Authorities in Anantnag district carried out a comprehensive inspection of lockers belonging to doctors and medical staff at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, officials said on Thursday. The exercise, initiated on Wednesday, comes in the backdrop of the recent Delhi blast, the recovery of arms and ammunition linked to a “white collar” terror module, and ongoing efforts to strengthen security, transparency, and accountability within medical institutions.
The inspection follows the earlier recovery of an AK-47 rifle from the locker of Dr. Adeel Rather at GMC Anantnag, a breakthrough that led to the busting of a significant “white collar” terror network involving multiple medical professionals. Investigations into the module also resulted in the recovery of nearly 2900 kg of explosive material, officials confirmed.
As part of the latest security review, Anantnag Police, in coordination with the hospital administration, conducted a detailed inspection of all staff lockers. During the drive, several unclaimed lockers were identified. The authorities have directed the hospital management to update and verify locker records to prevent any potential misuse and to ensure complete transparency in the handling of hospital infrastructure.
Officials emphasized that such inspections are crucial in maintaining a secure and accountable environment, particularly in sensitive institutions like hospitals, which can be vulnerable to exploitation by anti-national elements.
