Jammu, December 4, 2025 : The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday trapped and arrested Ganderab Singh, Patwari of Patwar Halqa Thalora, Majalta tehsil, and Kuldeep Kumar, a Chowkidar, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000.
An official of the ACB said that a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, has been registered against both accused at ACB Police Station Udhampur.
The case surfaced after a complainant approached the ACB, alleging that the Patwari had demanded a bribe for correcting his name in the revenue records. Acting on the complaint, the ACB conducted a discreet verification, which confirmed the demand of illegal gratification.
Following confirmation, a formal FIR was registered and a trap operation was planned. A trap team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) was constituted, and both accused were caught red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses.
“The bribe money was recovered on the spot, and both accused were arrested after completing all legal formalities,” the ACB official said.
Subsequently, searches were conducted at the Patwari’s residential premises in Khoon, Majalta, in the presence of a Magistrate, to ascertain whether the accused had amassed any disproportionate assets.
The ACB confirmed that further investigation in the case is underway, and more revelations are expected as the probe progresses.
