Srinagar, December 4, 2025 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that people are more concerned about effective governance and delivery on the ground than symbolic name changes of institutions.
Reacting to the Centre’s move of renaming Raj Bhawan as Lok Bhawan, Abdullah said,
“Name change is fine, but there should be a visible change in functioning as well. People are not bothered about the names, they look at our work.”
He further remarked that names alone do not matter to the common citizen.
“How does it matter to people whether I call myself Chief Minister, Mukhyamantri, or Wazeer-e-Aa’la? What matters is the work that reaches them,” he added.
Reservation Policy Update
On the much-awaited review of the reservation quota in the Union Territory, the Chief Minister informed that the file has been sent to the Lieutenant Governor for approval on Wednesday.
Power Supply in Peak Winter
Addressing concerns over electricity supply during the peak winter season in the Valley, Abdullah assured that the government would make every possible effort to strictly adhere to the scheduled power supply.
Relief to Nowgam Blast Victims’ Families
On providing relief to the next of kin of the Nowgam blast victims, the Chief Minister said that their cases for compassionate appointments are currently under process.
“Those who are eligible will get their due. Wherever there is a need to relax the norms, it will be done. Once all formalities are completed, appointment letters will be issued,” he said.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to transparent governance, public welfare, and timely justice for affected families.
