Jammu, February 5, 2026 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to begin a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir from Thursday, during which he will chair high-level meetings to review the security situation and progress of development initiatives in the Union Territory.
As part of his itinerary, the Home Minister will preside over an important security review meeting scheduled for Friday. He will also review centrally sponsored development schemes and assess their on-ground implementation. The visit includes inspections of the Border Security Force’s Bobia and Gurnam Border Outposts, reflecting a focus on border management and internal security.
In addition, Amit Shah will meet the families of fallen soldiers and hand over appointment letters to their kin as part of the government’s commitment to welfare and support for the families of security personnel who have laid down their lives in the line of duty.
Reacting to the visit, Jammu and Kashmir Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma said that the scheduled review meetings would help accelerate development in the region.
“This evening, Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive, and a security review meeting has been scheduled for tomorrow. There will also be a review of development-related schemes run by the Central Government. This will accelerate the pace of development and boost the morale of the security forces,” Sharma said.
Earlier, BJP MLA Shagun Parihar welcomed the Home Minister’s visit, praising his consistent engagement with Jammu and Kashmir.
“This is great news. Whenever he has come, he has lived up to the expectations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He has always kept J&K close to his heart,” she said.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq described the visit as “a ray of hope” and reiterated long-pending public demands, particularly the restoration of statehood.
“Whenever the Home Minister visits, a ray of hope emerges that he will announce a good package. Most importantly, people want the restoration of statehood, which was promised in Parliament. The time has come to fulfil that promise,” Sadiq said. He also urged the Centre to take serious cognisance of recent attacks on Kashmiris outside the Union Territory and ensure their safety.
The Home Minister’s visit is being closely watched amid heightened focus on security, development, and political commitments in Jammu and Kashmir.
