Jammu, February 13, 2026 : The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday informed the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly that the reopening of tourist destinations Doodhpathri and Yousmarg is subject to security considerations, which fall outside the mandate of the Tourism Department.
The clarification came in response to a question raised by Budgam MLA Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi during the Assembly session.
The government stated that the matter has been referred to the Deputy Commissioner of Budgam for appropriate action, emphasizing that reopening will be considered only after necessary security clearances are obtained to ensure the safety of tourists and local residents.
Acknowledging concerns, the government admitted that recent incidents have adversely impacted tourist inflow and affected the livelihoods of stakeholders dependent on the tourism sector.
To revive tourism in the Union Territory, officials said the department has intensified promotional campaigns, upgraded infrastructure, and initiated confidence-building measures. Several thematic festivals and promotional events have been organized both within the UT and at the national level. The government added that the ongoing winter tourist season is witnessing improved activity.
Authorities reiterated that reopening of key destinations will proceed once security agencies provide clearance, prioritizing visitor safety and overall stability.
