Srinagar, February 26, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said nation-building must be the foremost priority of the young generation, asserting that youth can truly progress only when the country is strong.

Addressing the 21st convocation ceremony of the University of Kashmir, Sinha emphasised that students should always put the nation first.

“When you build the country, the country builds you back. When the nation rises, so do you,” he said.

The convocation was attended by Vice President C P Radhakrishnan, who was the chief guest at the function.

Three Pillars For Success

The Lieutenant Governor highlighted three key aspects essential for success in today’s fast-changing world:

  • Adaptability to changing situations

  • Acceptance of failure as part of the learning process

  • Smart use of technology as a tool, not a dependency

“Failure should not be seen as punishment. Technology must empower us, not control us,” he added.

Education As A Tool For Transformation

Sinha said education is not a privilege but a powerful instrument of transformation. He noted that the digital revolution has expanded opportunities but also created challenges, as skills in demand today may become obsolete tomorrow.

“A culture of lifelong learning is essential to survive and thrive in a rapidly evolving world,” he said.

Referring to India’s national vision, he said the country has set a realistic goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

“This is not just a dream but a mission. The real question is whether technology serves profits alone or the development of humanity,” he remarked.

Women Leading The Way

The Lieutenant Governor expressed pride over the outstanding performance of women students at the convocation.

“Out of 239 gold medals, 186 have been won by girls. Out of 164 PhDs, 108 have been awarded to women. This is not an ordinary statistic,” he said.

He added that these figures reflect how women are not just participating but excelling and setting new benchmarks, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on women-led development.

Concluding his address, Sinha said the true aim of education is not merely earning a livelihood but improving the overall quality of life and contributing meaningfully to nation-building.
