Srinagar, March 26, 2026 : Despite recent spells of rain and snowfall triggered by multiple Western Disturbances, the Kashmir Division continues to grapple with a significant rainfall deficit of over 52% in March, raising concerns over water resources and agriculture.
According to data released by the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, most districts across both Kashmir and Jammu divisions recorded below-normal precipitation during the month.
Kashmir Division: Sharp Deficit Across Districts
- Overall rainfall: 55.43 mm (Normal: 115.23 mm) → 51.9% deficit
- Kulgam: 22.4 mm (86% deficit)
- Shopian: 16.3 mm (83% deficit)
- Budgam: 71% deficit
- Anantnag: 63% deficit
- Pulwama & Srinagar: 46% deficit each
- Bandipora: 41% deficit
- Baramulla: 38% deficit
- Kupwara: 37% deficit
👉 Notably, Ganderbal was the only district to record near-normal rainfall.
Jammu Division: Similar Trend
The Jammu Division also witnessed a 45.85% rainfall deficit, receiving 71.12 mm against the normal 131.34 mm.
- Poonch and Samba recorded near-normal rainfall
- Other districts like Jammu, Kathua, Ramban and Udhampur remained in deficit
Weather Forecast & Advisory
The MeT department has predicted:
- Generally cloudy weather from March 28–30
- Light to moderate rain/snowfall, especially in higher reaches
- Thunderstorms & gusty winds (40–50 kmph)
⚠️ An advisory has also been issued warning of moderate snowfall in higher altitudes and thunder/lightning, particularly during night hours.
