Jammu, March 29, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday said the ‘Temples to Trails’ themed Jammu Marathon will play a key role in establishing the region as a premier hub for fitness tourism and cultural exploration.
Leading by example, the Chief Minister flagged off the marathon at MA Stadium and actively participated in the 21.1 km half-marathon, completing the challenging run in approximately two hours despite inclement weather. His participation drew widespread admiration, with enthusiastic runners gathering at the finish line to cheer and capture moments with him.
According to an official statement shared on X, the Chief Minister encouraged citizens from all walks of life to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle, stressing the importance of fitness and overall well-being in daily routines.
Highlighting the unique theme “Temples to Trails,” Omar Abdullah noted that the event beautifully blends Jammu’s rich spiritual heritage with its scenic landscapes. He emphasized that such initiatives will position Jammu as a vibrant destination, attracting tourists interested in both fitness and cultural experiences.
Renowned fitness icon Milind Soman, who also participated in the half-marathon, described the event as a “wonderful experience.” Sharing his spiritual and fitness journey, Soman revealed that he had undertaken a visit to the revered Vaishno Devi Temple a day prior, covering nearly 20 km on foot.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Soman said running in the rain added to the experience and praised the high energy of participants. He also lauded the Chief Minister’s involvement, calling it inspiring for the public.
Actor Gul Panag commended both the runners and organizers for the successful execution of the inaugural event. She highlighted the remarkable turnout despite adverse weather conditions, terming it a significant achievement and a strong indicator of the region’s growing appeal.
The marathon witnessed participation from thousands of runners across the country, reflecting a rising interest in fitness-driven tourism. The event not only celebrated athletic spirit but also showcased Jammu’s potential as a destination where spirituality, nature, and wellness converge.
