Kathua, March 31, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained a habitual offender and alleged bovine smuggler under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) in Kathua, officials said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Amit Kumar, a resident of Phinder in R.S. Pura tehsil of Jammu district, was taken into preventive custody following his repeated involvement in bovine smuggling cases.
Police officials stated that the action was carried out on the directions of the District Magistrate Kathua, who issued a formal detention warrant against the accused under PSA provisions.
According to authorities, Kumar had been evading arrest for several months and was allegedly involved in multiple cases registered at Hiranagar and Lakhanpur police stations under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Following his detention, the accused has been lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.
Police reiterated their commitment to curbing illegal activities and maintaining law and order in the region.
