JAMMU, April 5, 2026 : In a major anti-drug operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday arrested six alleged drug peddlers across multiple districts, recovering significant quantities of contraband substances.
Action in Reasi After Viral Videos
Acting on videos circulating on social media showing alleged drug sales in Purana Daroor market near Katra, police conducted a swift operation in Reasi district.
Four accused were apprehended:
- Rashpal Singh
- Uttam Singh
- Sohal Lal (all residents of Katra)
- Joginder Singh (resident of Kanjali)
Police recovered a consignment of banned tablets, and legal proceedings have been initiated.
Arrests in Poonch & Jammu
- In Poonch, Iftikhar Hussain was arrested in the Mandi area with 8.80 grams of heroin.
- In Jammu, Uttra Kumar Suryawanshi (resident of Chhattisgarh) was caught near Karloop Bridge in Gajansoo with 1 kg of ganja.
Strict Legal Action
Both accused were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and further investigation is underway.
Ongoing Anti-Drug Drive
Officials said the crackdown is part of a wider campaign against drug trafficking, with increased surveillance and strict enforcement to curb the menace in the region.
