JAMMU, April 6, 2026 : The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a Social Welfare Department official in a bribery case in Kathua, exposing corruption in the disbursement of government welfare schemes.
The accused, Des Raj, a Junior Assistant posted in the Social Welfare Department at Billawar, was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe from a complainant.
Bribe for Marriage Assistance Scheme
According to officials, the accused had demanded ₹10,000 for releasing financial aid under the State Marriage Assistance Scheme for the complainant’s daughter.
After negotiations, he agreed to accept ₹5,000, out of which:
- ₹1,500 had already been paid earlier
- ₹3,000 was being demanded at the time of trap
- The total assistance amount involved was ₹50,000
ACB Trap & Arrest
Acting on the complaint, the Anti Corruption Bureau conducted a discreet verification, which confirmed the bribery demand.
A trap team was then constituted, and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses. The bribe money was recovered on the spot, and the accused was immediately arrested.
Case Registered & Investigation On
A case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 has been registered at ACB Police Station Jammu.
Search operations are also being conducted at the accused’s residence in Kishanpur, Billawar, in the presence of a Magistrate.
Strict Action Against Corruption
Officials said further investigation is underway, reaffirming the ACB’s commitment to zero tolerance against corruption in public services.
