SRINAGAR, April 6, 2026 : Darakshan Andrabi, Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, on Monday termed the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act as a “dream come true” for women across India.
‘Inspiring Step for Women Empowerment’
Speaking on the sidelines of a BJP event, Andrabi welcomed the move, saying it would ensure greater participation of women in law-making.
“It will be a dream come true for women to be partners in framing laws,” she said.
She also congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for pushing the initiative forward.
33% Reservation Likely by 2029
The remarks come after the Prime Minister indicated that the law providing 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies could be implemented by 2029, with Parliament expected to take further steps soon.
Push for Political Representation
Andrabi emphasized that the move would significantly increase the number of women lawmakers, calling it a major milestone in women empowerment.
“What couldn’t happen in decades has now become possible,” she added.
BJP’s Growing Presence in J&K
Highlighting political developments, Andrabi said the Bharatiya Janata Party has strengthened its base in Jammu and Kashmir and will continue to grow further.
Party Ideology Reiterated
BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur said the party is guided by principles of:

- Gandhian socialism
- Positive secularism
He urged party workers to stay committed to building a stronger and inclusive India.
