SRINAGAR, April 8, 2026 : National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday welcomed the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, stressing that dialogue remains the only viable solution to global conflicts.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Abdullah expressed relief over the development and said, “I thank God for giving courage to both countries to sit across the table. There is no other option than dialogue.”
“War Is Never the Solution”
The former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister strongly reiterated that war has never resolved issues and never will.
“War has never been a solution, and it will never be. I congratulate both nations and hope they continue talks to ensure lasting peace. This conflict has impacted the entire world,” he said.
Concerns for Overseas Workers
Abdullah highlighted concerns for people, especially from Jammu & Kashmir, working in Middle Eastern countries, whose livelihoods are affected during such conflicts.
“We are worried about our people working there. Their safety and livelihood matter to us. We want this war to end,” he added.
Calls for India’s Role in Peace Efforts
Referring to India’s global standing, Abdullah expressed hope that India would play a constructive role in easing tensions, given its friendly relations with the United States.
“I hope India also lends its support in diffusing tensions, as developments in that region have a direct impact on us,” he said.
On Israel, Global Balance & Diplomacy
Commenting on the broader regional situation, Abdullah noted that Israel is also facing significant losses and that continued conflict will only deepen destruction.
He further emphasized that the global order is no longer unipolar, referencing countries like China and Russia, and stressed the need for balanced diplomacy.
“If India has to grow and prosper, it must extend a hand of friendship to all nations. Progress comes through cooperation, not conflict,” he stated.
Message to Pakistan
In a significant remark, Abdullah also urged Pakistan to abandon terrorism and embrace peace and development.
“The time has come for Pakistan to move towards prosperity and brotherhood. There is no other way forward,” he added.
“Peace Is God’s Will”
Refusing to credit any particular country for the ceasefire, Abdullah attributed the development to divine intervention.
“I won’t credit any nation. God created a path, and they are trying to walk on it,” he said.
