JAMMU, April 8, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday questioned the rationale behind the recent conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran, terming it an “unjust war.”

In a post on his personal X account, Abdullah pointed to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz following the ceasefire, noting that the vital maritime route had been freely accessible before the conflict began.

“So the ceasefire allows a strait to reopen, a strait that was open & freely available to everyone before the war started. What exactly did this 39-day war achieve for the US?” he remarked.

Ceasefire and Diplomatic Engagement

The remarks come after the United States and Iran agreed to a ceasefire reportedly facilitated by Pakistan. Diplomatic delegations from Washington and Tehran are expected to meet in Islamabad, marking their first open engagement since tensions escalated earlier this year.

Raising Broader Questions

Abdullah’s comments reflect wider concerns over the outcomes of the conflict, particularly its global economic and strategic implications, including disruptions to key trade routes like the Strait of Hormuz.

Conclusion

By questioning the purpose and outcomes of the conflict, the Chief Minister highlighted the need for accountability and a renewed focus on diplomacy over military action.
