JAMMU, April 11, 2026 : In a strong and uncompromising stance against drug trafficking, Manoj Sinha on Saturday announced stringent punitive measures, including confiscation of assets and cancellation of key identification documents for those involved in the drug trade in Jammu and Kashmir.
Launching a 100-day intensive anti-drug campaign with a padyatra from M A Stadium to Parade Ground, the Lt Governor said the administration is committed to dismantling cross-border drug networks that threaten society.
“Our neighbour is using cross-border smuggling to poison our communities and undermine our nation’s future,” Sinha said, asserting that the full force of law will now be directed at drug smugglers and their networks.
Announcing a series of lifetime-impact penalties, the Lt Governor said authorities will confiscate both movable and immovable properties, freeze bank accounts, and revoke documents such as Aadhaar, passports, driving licences, and arms licences of those found involved in drug trafficking. Absconders will face immediate issuance of Look Out Circulars.
He further stated that all actions will be taken under the provisions of the NDPS Act, ensuring swift prosecution and strict punishment for offenders.
Calling drug abuse one of the gravest challenges facing the Union Territory, Sinha emphasized that the administration is fully committed to eradicating the menace. He urged coordinated action among departments and greater public participation to ensure success of the campaign.
The Lt Governor also directed senior officials to strengthen grassroots intelligence by involving panchayats, mohalla committees, chowkidars, lambardars, and ward-level surveillance groups to identify and act against culprits swiftly.
Highlighting the importance of collective effort, Sinha said, “When departments unite with shared purpose, we prevail,” urging citizens to actively support the government’s Nasha Mukt Abhiyan and help build a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
The campaign marks a decisive push by the administration to curb drug abuse and dismantle trafficking networks through strict enforcement and community-driven action.
