JAMMU, April 22, 2026 : In a landmark achievement, Indian Railways has successfully facilitated the arrival of the first-ever special milk freight train carrying Amul dairy products from Gujarat to Jammu and Kashmir.
The train, comprising 20 BCN wagons loaded with products from the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Amul), originated from Ahmedabad Division on April 20 and reached Bari Brahman and Anantnag goods sheds. Each set of 10 wagons carried nearly 500 tonnes of dairy items, including toned milk, milk powder, buttermilk, and lassi.
Officials described the development as a major boost to food security and supply chain efficiency in the region. The direct rail linkage is expected to reduce transportation costs and ensure uninterrupted availability of essential dairy products for consumers across Jammu and Kashmir.
Railway authorities termed it a “historic moment” for the Jammu Division, emphasizing that such initiatives will strengthen economic ties between Gujarat and J&K while enhancing logistical efficiency and market connectivity.
