Jammu, April 25, 2026 : Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Council at Lok Bhavan, focusing on major reforms to transform the higher education landscape in Jammu and Kashmir.
📚 Key Focus Areas
The Council deliberated on several forward-looking initiatives, including:
- Implementation of the ‘Design Your Degree’ (DYD) programme across universities
- Integration of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence into curricula
- Promotion of entrepreneurship and skill-based education
- Development of human capital aligned with the vision of a Viksit Bharat
The Lieutenant Governor directed institutions to ensure effective on-ground execution of these initiatives and stressed the need for innovation-driven learning.
🤝 Collaboration & Innovation
Sinha emphasized stronger coordination between central and UT institutions to ensure a unified and high-quality education system. Plans were also discussed for:
- Joint Degree Programmes across institutions
- A shared digital platform for academic collaboration
- Increasing the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER)
- Special initiatives like Riverine College and AI competitions
🌍 Vision for Excellence
“We must establish benchmarks aligned with national and international standards,” Sinha said, aiming to position J&K as a model for educational excellence.
Dinesh Singh highlighted that higher education should focus on unlocking human potential and contributing meaningfully to society.
The meeting also reviewed budget allocations for 2025–26 and 2026–27 and discussed the implementation of National Education Policy 2020.
Several vice chancellors and senior officials from institutions like the University of Jammu, Kashmir University, IIT Jammu, and others participated, sharing insights on the roadmap ahead.
