SRINAGAR, May 1, 2026 : National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has voiced strong disappointment over the INDIA bloc, alleging lack of adequate support—especially from the Indian National Congress—on the crucial issue of restoring Jammu & Kashmir’s statehood.
🗣️ Sharp Criticism of Alliance
In a candid assessment, Abdullah said:
- The alliance has failed to back J&K’s statehood demand with expected vigour
- The bloc must evolve beyond an electoral arrangement into a serious platform for national issues
- “It’s very sad the role expected hasn’t been played,” he remarked
⚖️ Call for Stronger Action
Abdullah stressed the need for:
- Frequent meetings within the INDIA bloc
- A unified and assertive strategy on J&K issues
- Greater engagement with ground realities instead of “air-conditioned politics”
🏛️ Statehood Still Uncertain
While expressing hope, he noted:
- Assurances have been given by Narendra Modi and Amit Shah
- However, no clear timeline has been announced
- The party may approach the Supreme Court if delays persist
He referenced the apex court’s direction to restore statehood “at the earliest” following the verdict on Abrogation of Article 370.
🔍 Political Reality Check
Abdullah also highlighted:
- Opposition’s struggle to project a strong national leader
- Changing dynamics of modern politics compared to earlier decades
- The need for leaders to connect directly with the public
🎯 Message to Youth & Leaders
Offering advice, he urged:
- Honesty and transparency in leadership
- Focus on tackling poverty and ignorance
- Staying resilient despite political challenges
