SRINAGAR, May 1, 2026 : In a key leadership transition, Balbir Singh on Friday assumed charge as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the XV Corps (Chinar Corps)—one of the most strategically significant formations of the Indian Army in Jammu & Kashmir.
🛡️ Guarding the Valley & LoC
Headquartered in Srinagar, the Chinar Corps plays a crucial role in:
- Securing the Line of Control (LoC)
- Overseeing counter-insurgency (CI) and counter-terrorism (CT) operations
- Maintaining internal security across Kashmir Valley
Lt Gen Singh’s appointment comes at a time when security dynamics remain sensitive and under constant watch.
🎖️ Extensive Operational Experience
A seasoned officer and alumnus of the Indian Military Academy, Lt Gen Singh brings deep field experience in J&K, including:
- Key operational role at 8 Sector HQ, Lolab (Kupwara)
- Command of 1 Sector, Rashtriya Rifles (2018–19)
- Leadership of Counter Insurgency Force (CIF) Victor in Awantipora (2023)
- Served as Major General General Staff (MGGS), Northern Command
