SRINAGAR, May 5, 2026 : In a major action against recruitment fraud, the Economic Offences Wing Kashmir (EOW) has intensified its probe into a health educator recruitment scam, conducting searches and arresting a key accused involved in the case.
The arrested individual has been identified as Shahnawaz Ahmad Mir, a Senior Assistant in the Health Department and a resident of Tankipora Shaheed Gunj, Srinagar. He has been taken into custody for his alleged role in manipulating official records to facilitate fraudulent appointments.
The case pertains to FIR No. 19/2017 registered under Sections 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the RPC at the Crime Branch Kashmir, now functioning as the Economic Offences Wing Kashmir.
According to officials, the case surfaced following a communication from the Deputy Director Health Services Kashmir, which revealed that an individual had fraudulently secured a position as a Health Educator by using forged transfer orders and a fabricated Last Pay Certificate.
Investigations uncovered that the accused had illegally entered government service at Block Sheeri in Baramulla and subsequently drew salary, causing wrongful loss to the state exchequer.
Officials further disclosed that Shahnawaz Ahmad Mir is a habitual offender and is allegedly involved in multiple similar fraud cases—some currently under investigation, while others have already been charge-sheeted.
The latest action underscores the administration’s resolve to crack down on corruption and ensure transparency in government recruitment processes.
Further investigation into the scam is underway, with authorities indicating that more arrests and revelations may follow.
