SRINAGAR, May 8, 2026 : Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, today chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the progress of various developmental projects being implemented by the Education, Health and Social Welfare departments across Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, the Minister conducted a detailed review of department-wise projects, monitoring mechanisms, fund utilization and inter-departmental coordination to ensure smooth and effective implementation of developmental initiatives across the Union Territory.
Reviewing the Education Department projects, Sakeena Itoo assessed the progress of construction and upgradation of school buildings, establishment of smart classrooms, strengthening of laboratory and library facilities and improvement of basic amenities in schools and colleges. She directed officials to ensure quality infrastructure in educational institutions to provide students with a better and more conducive learning environment.
Highlighting the need for modern educational facilities in rural and far-flung areas, the Minister instructed officers to expedite all pending works on priority. She emphasized the importance of enhancing digital learning infrastructure and ensuring adequate basic facilities in educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir.
While reviewing the Health Department initiatives, the Minister took stock of ongoing works related to hospital infrastructure, upgradation of medical facilities and strengthening of healthcare delivery systems. Stressing the need for accessible and affordable healthcare, she directed authorities to accelerate healthcare projects and ensure the availability of essential medicines, medical equipment and adequate manpower at all health institutions.
Sakeena Itoo also directed the concerned officers to constitute a committee for assessing the status of lifts, oxygen plants, public utilities and other facilities in hospitals and submit a detailed report within a week.
Regarding the Social Welfare sector, the Minister instructed officials to ensure maximum coverage of eligible beneficiaries under various welfare schemes. She also called for extensive awareness drives to educate people about government initiatives aimed at welfare and empowerment.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment towards inclusive and equitable development, Sakeena Itoo said sustained efforts are being made to strengthen public service delivery and create robust infrastructure in key sectors across Jammu and Kashmir.
She urged officers to work with dedication, maintain transparency and ensure timely completion of all projects so that benefits reach the people without delay. The Minister also instructed officials to consult local MLAs while planning developmental projects and ensure that all works announced under the Budget are completed within stipulated timelines.
The meeting was attended by Director Finance, Director Planning of the concerned departments, senior officers and other officials.
