KATHUA, May 8, 2026 : Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua, Mohit Sharma, on Thursday revealed that the murder of Nakul Singh was allegedly the outcome of a violent altercation linked to a love affair dispute involving his friend, Parthav Verma (19).
According to SSP Sharma, the incident took place following a scuffle between the two youths, during which the accused allegedly attacked Nakul Singh with a cricket bat. Police said the accused repeatedly struck Nakul on the head until he collapsed on the spot.
The SSP further stated that Nakul’s younger brother entered the house during the incident and allegedly witnessed the assault. Fearing identification, the accused reportedly attacked the younger sibling as well using the same cricket bat. The younger brother sustained injuries and collapsed, but survived the attack.
After the crime, the accused allegedly fled from the scene and took away Nakul Singh’s mobile phone in an apparent attempt to evade detection.
Police launched an investigation immediately after the incident and traced the accused through call detail record (CDR) analysis. SSP Sharma said the accused was subsequently arrested from within Kathua district.
The officer added that both the deceased and the accused were known to each other and shared a friendship. Police said further investigation is ongoing to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the murder case.
