Srinagar, May 15, 2026: The Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on Friday approved a series of major infrastructure and public welfare projects aimed at strengthening power supply, healthcare services, and waste management systems across the Kashmir Valley.

Among the key decisions, the Cabinet approved the augmentation of the Grid Sub Station at Zainakote from 450 Megavolt-Ampere (MVA) to 780 MVA at an estimated cost of Rs 67.66 crore.

The Cabinet also sanctioned the upgradation of the 132 KV Pampore–Rawalpora and Rawalpora–Bemina transmission lines at a projected cost of Rs 25.47 crore.

According to a statement issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), these projects are intended to significantly enhance the power infrastructure in Srinagar and surrounding areas by increasing transmission capacity, reducing outages, and ensuring a more reliable and efficient electricity supply for consumers.

In another major decision, the Council of Ministers approved the establishment of an 800 Tonnes Per Day (TPD) Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) Project at Achan, Srinagar, with an estimated investment of Rs 361 crore. The project is expected to strengthen waste processing and scientific disposal mechanisms in the city.

The Cabinet also granted approval for the completion and upgradation of the Sub-District Hospital at Hazratbal by relaxing buffer zone restrictions under the Srinagar Master Plan 2035.

The CMO stated that the decision was taken in the larger public interest to improve healthcare infrastructure and ensure better medical services and patient care for the people of the region.

The latest Cabinet approvals are being viewed as a significant push towards improving urban infrastructure, public utilities, and healthcare facilities in Jammu and Kashmir.
