SRINAGAR, May 19, 2026 : In a major boost to the healthcare sector in Jammu and Kashmir, the National Health Mission (NHM) has sanctioned and released grants-in-aid amounting to more than ₹150.84 crore under various healthcare programmes for the financial year 2026–27.
According to an official order issued by the Mission Director, NHM Jammu and Kashmir, the funds have been released under the Flexible Pool for Reproductive and Child Health (RCH), Health System Strengthening, National Health Programmes and the Urban Health Mission.
Officials said the funds were released through the BEAMS via SNA-SPARSH platform for payment of salaries of NHM and outsourced staff, stipends for DNB candidates and incentives for ASHA workers across the Union Territory.
The order stated that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, sanctioned the funds under the approved State Programme Implementation Plan (PIP) for Jammu and Kashmir, following which allocations were made in favour of various implementing agencies and District Health Societies.
Among the major beneficiaries, the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir received more than ₹65.49 crore, while the Directorate of Health Services Jammu was allocated nearly ₹46.29 crore.
Government Medical College Jammu was sanctioned over ₹21.10 crore, while Government Medical College Srinagar received more than ₹1.98 crore under the approved allocations.
District-wise allocations include over ₹9.90 crore for Anantnag, ₹10.91 crore for Baramulla, ₹11.47 crore for Budgam, ₹17.50 crore for Jammu district, ₹12.75 crore for Kupwara, ₹7.60 crore for Pulwama, ₹9.27 crore for Srinagar and ₹6.60 crore for Udhampur, among other districts.
The NHM has directed all Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) to ensure that the funds are utilised strictly for the sanctioned purposes and in accordance with General Financial Rules (GFR) 2017 and other guidelines issued by the Government of India and the J&K Health and Medical Education Department.
The order further stated that no diversion of funds would be permitted without prior approval from the State Health Society. All implementing agencies have also been instructed to maintain proper financial records and ensure transparency in expenditure.
Authorities additionally directed healthcare institutions to prominently display the NHM logo on infrastructure and equipment supported under the scheme and submit regular monthly financial monitoring and implementation reports.
Officials said the release of funds is expected to strengthen healthcare delivery, support frontline health workers and improve implementation of national health programmes across Jammu and Kashmir.
