SRINAGAR, May 20, 2026 : In a major action against narcotics-related activities under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, Srinagar Police on Tuesday demolished an illegally constructed property worth nearly ₹1.5 crore allegedly linked to a wanted drug peddler in the Lal Bazar area of Srinagar.
According to officials, Police Station Lal Bazar carried out the demolition of a two-storey illegal structure along with an adjoining room and washroom built on State land at Haka Bazar, Lal Bazar. The property, spread across nearly nine marlas, was allegedly connected to Arshid Ahmed Sheikh, son of Wali Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Haka Bazar, Lal Bazar.
Police said the accused is wanted in multiple cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. These include FIR No. 31/2025 under Sections 8/21 and 22 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Janipur, Jammu, and FIR No. 50/2025 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Lal Bazar.
The demolition drive was conducted in the presence of the Executive Magistrate Khanyar and officials from the Srinagar Municipal Corporation. Authorities stated that the operation was executed strictly as per legal procedures to dismantle illegal assets and financial networks created through the narcotics trade.
Officials confirmed that the entire operation was carried out peacefully under proper supervision.
Srinagar Police reiterated its firm commitment to eradicating the drug menace from society and urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information regarding drug peddling and unlawful activities in their areas.
