POONCH, May 21, 2026 : Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Rajouri-Poonch Range, Sandeep Wazir, on Thursday visited the forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu & Kashmir’s Poonch district to assess the prevailing security situation and review operational preparedness in border regions.
According to officials, the DIG interacted with police personnel deployed in the forward belt of the Salotri sector and reviewed existing security arrangements, deployment patterns and coordination mechanisms aimed at ensuring peace, vigilance and effective border management.
During the visit, Wazir emphasized the importance of maintaining a high level of alertness, seamless coordination among security agencies and proactive policing in sensitive and vulnerable areas along the LoC.
The visit was conducted as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security measures and enhance policing capabilities in forward villages situated near the border.
Officials said the DIG also chaired a high-level conference during which the prevailing security scenario in the district was comprehensively reviewed. Discussions focused on operational preparedness, investigative efficiency and administrative aspects of policing.
Addressing officers during the meeting, Wazir directed them to remain vigilant and proactive in dealing with emerging security threats, cyber-related offences and other criminal activities.
He further stressed the need for stronger coordination among different police units and security agencies to reinforce the overall security grid in the Rajouri-Poonch region.
The visit comes amid heightened focus on border security and surveillance along the Line of Control to ensure peace and stability in frontier districts.
