NEW DELHI, May 21, 2026 : Hamza Burhan, an alleged mastermind and associate linked to the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, was reportedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK), sources said on Thursday.
According to reports, Burhan was attacked in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan, where unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire on him, hitting him multiple times. Sources said he later succumbed to his injuries following the attack.
Hamza Burhan, also identified as Arjumand Gulzar Dar alias “Doctor,” was designated as a terrorist by the Government of India in 2022 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
In an official notification issued at the time, the Centre had identified him as a resident of Kharbatpora, Ratnipora in Pulwama district and an associate member of the banned terrorist outfit Al-Badr.
Burhan’s name had surfaced in connection with the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, one of the deadliest attacks on Indian security forces in Jammu & Kashmir.
The Pulwama attack took place on February 14, 2019, when Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist Adeel Ahmad Dar rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a CRPF convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Lethpora in Pulwama district.
The devastating suicide bombing claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel and triggered nationwide outrage and heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.
There has been no official confirmation from Pakistani authorities regarding the reported killing at the time of reporting.
