Srinagar, May 31, 2026 : The Army, in coordination with Jammu and Kashmir Police, foiled an alleged exfiltration attempt in the Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district by apprehending three individuals, while in a separate incident, troops detained a man from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) after he crossed the Line of Control (LoC), officials said on Sunday.
According to the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, a joint operation was launched in the Uri area on Saturday following specific intelligence inputs regarding suspicious movement in the sector.
During the operation, security forces intercepted and apprehended three individuals who were allegedly attempting to exfiltrate from the region with the assistance of a local guide.
“Two individuals from Sopore apprehended by vigilant Chinar Warriors while attempting exfiltration in Uri Sector with inimical intent along with their accomplice guide. Further probe underway,” the Chinar Corps said in a post on X.
Officials identified the detained individuals as Adil Hussain, Ishfaq Lone and Jaffar Hafiz.
Security agencies have initiated a detailed investigation to ascertain the motive behind the alleged exfiltration attempt, possible links and other aspects related to the case.
PoJK Resident Apprehended While Crossing LoC
In a separate development in the Uri sector, Army personnel intercepted and apprehended a man from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir while he was allegedly attempting to cross the Line of Control into Indian territory.
The Army said alert troops detected the movement and acted swiftly while maintaining restraint during the interception.
“A PoJK intruder has been apprehended, who was intercepted by alert Chinar Warriors while crossing the Line of Control in Uri Sector. The vigilant troops maintained restraint while challenging the intruder and surgically apprehended the individual. Intruder handed over to JK Police for further legal proceedings,” the Army said in another statement.
Officials identified the detained individual as Zeeshan Mir, a 22-year-old resident of Muzaffarabad, based on documents recovered from his possession, including a Pakistani national identity card.
Investigation Underway
According to officials, during preliminary questioning, Mir claimed that he crossed the LoC to meet a girl residing on the Indian side after the two allegedly established contact through social media platforms.
Authorities are verifying the claims and examining all circumstances surrounding the border crossing.
Security agencies are also investigating whether any additional factors or networks may have been involved in facilitating the movement.
The apprehensions come amid heightened security and surveillance along the Line of Control, where security forces continue to maintain strict vigilance against infiltration, exfiltration and other cross-border activities.
Officials said further investigation is underway in both cases, and additional details are expected to emerge following questioning and verification procedures.
