GANDERBAL, June 5, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday issued a stern warning to narco-terror networks operating within the Union Territory and from across the border, declaring that those involved in drug trafficking and related criminal activities will face severe consequences and be brought to justice.
Addressing a massive gathering during the ‘Nasha-Mukt Jammu Kashmir’ rally in Ganderbal district, the Lieutenant Governor said a historic people’s movement against narco-terrorism has emerged across Jammu and Kashmir, reflecting society’s collective determination to eradicate the drug menace.
“Having visited every district in the Kashmir Valley and participated in every march under the anti-drug campaign, I can confidently say that a historic movement against narco-terrorism has taken shape,” Sinha said.
Describing drug trafficking as a major national security concern rather than a routine law-and-order issue, he emphasized that narco-terrorism poses a direct threat to the future of society, particularly the youth.
“Drug trafficking is not a petty crime. It is a matter of national security and a grave danger to our society. Narco-terrorists, whether sitting in neighbouring countries or operating from within Jammu and Kashmir, are enemies of our people, enemies of our children, and enemies of progress,” he asserted.
The Lieutenant Governor vowed that those responsible for destroying lives through the drug trade would face exemplary punishment.
“I promise that narco-terrorists will no longer find refuge. We will hunt them down. Their days are numbered. Their networks will be dismantled one by one. This is my oath—every narco-terrorist will answer for their sins,” he declared.
Calling for greater public participation in the anti-drug movement, Sinha urged mothers, sisters and daughters to become protectors of their villages, towns and neighbourhoods, while encouraging young people to act as guardians of schools and colleges against the influence of drugs.
Highlighting the achievements of the ongoing anti-drug campaign, the Lieutenant Governor revealed that significant action has been taken during the last 55 days.
According to official figures shared by Sinha, authorities have registered 1,036 FIRs, arrested 1,128 alleged drug smugglers, and attached more than 100 properties linked to proceeds generated through the narcotics trade. In addition, nearly 700 driving licences have been cancelled, while recommendations have been made for the cancellation of 130 passports belonging to alleged drug offenders.
“Fifty-five days ago, I declared that enough is enough. What started as a war against drugs and narco-terrorism has now transformed into a people’s movement—one born out of courage, sustained by collective spirit and driven by the resolve of citizens. Today, that determination is stronger than ever,” he said.
While emphasizing strict action against drug traffickers and peddlers, Sinha also stressed the importance of rehabilitation and reintegration for those struggling with addiction.
“With compassion and dignity, we will help those affected by addiction return to the mainstream. Through treatment, counselling and employment opportunities, we are opening new doors of hope and recovery,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor described the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir’ campaign as more than just a government initiative, calling it a social revolution aimed at safeguarding future generations.
“Together, we will ensure that no drug smuggler or peddler finds a place in Jammu and Kashmir. This fight belongs to every citizen, and together we will build a healthier, safer and drug-free society,” he added.
The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from citizens, youth groups, civil society members and local representatives, reflecting growing public support for the campaign against drug abuse and narco-terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
