KULGAM, June 09, 2026 : In a decisive move to protect public infrastructure and facilitate the smooth execution of highway development works, the District Administration Kulgam on Tuesday launched a demolition drive against structures allegedly encroaching upon the notified corridor of National Highway-444 (NH-444).
The operation was carried out on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Shahzad Alam (IAS) and was supervised by the Tehsildar Kulgam and SHO Kulgam, with active support from officials of the Revenue Department and Jammu & Kashmir Police.
During the drive, multiple structures identified within the designated alignment of NH-444 were demolished, clearing the area for ongoing and future highway-related development works. The action forms part of a broader initiative aimed at safeguarding public land and ensuring that critical infrastructure projects proceed without obstruction.
Officials stated that the administration remains committed to protecting government land and public assets, emphasizing that strict legal action will continue against unauthorized encroachments that hinder developmental projects.
The district administration also urged residents to cooperate with authorities and adhere to land-use regulations, underscoring the importance of preserving infrastructure corridors essential for regional connectivity and economic growth.
