SRINAGAR, June 09, 2026 : Security forces achieved a significant success in countering illegal arms movement in north Kashmir after recovering two pistols, magazines, and live ammunition from different locations in Baramulla district, officials said on Tuesday.
According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, a joint operation conducted by Baramulla Police and the 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) led to the recovery of a foreign-made pistol in the Chandsuma area of Kanispora, thereby foiling an alleged attempt to transport illegal arms.
In an official statement shared on social media platform X, the district police said the recovery was made during a coordinated operation aimed at preventing unlawful activities and maintaining security in the region.
Officials further stated that during the subsequent investigation, security forces recovered another pistol, two magazines, and 13 live rounds of ammunition from the Kamalkot area of Uri Tehsil in Baramulla district.
The recoveries are being viewed as an important breakthrough in efforts to curb the movement of illegal weapons and strengthen the security grid in the border district.
Police, however, have not disclosed whether any arrests have been made in connection with the recoveries. Investigations are underway to ascertain the source, intended destination, and possible links of the recovered arms and ammunition.
Security agencies continue to maintain heightened vigilance across the district to prevent any attempts aimed at disturbing peace and public order.
The successful operation underscores the close coordination between Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces in tackling security challenges and preventing unlawful activities in the region.
