New Delhi, June 20, 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced that more than 70 lakh employment opportunities have been generated across the country under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY), highlighting the scheme’s growing role in strengthening employment and social security for India’s workforce.
Addressing a special event in New Delhi, the Prime Minister disbursed incentives worth ₹2,400 crore through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to support the creation of 15 lakh new jobs under the flagship employment-linked incentive programme launched in August 2025.
Sharing the achievements of the initiative, Prime Minister Modi said that nearly 70 lakh new jobs have been created so far, while an equal number of first-time employees have been brought under the social security framework, ensuring long-term financial and workplace security.
The Prime Minister noted that approximately 20 lakh young people have successfully completed six months in their first jobs, and nearly 10 lakh beneficiaries have already received incentive benefits upon reaching this milestone.
Describing the support as more than a financial benefit, Modi said the incentives symbolize the nation’s confidence in its youth and recognition of their hard work and aspirations.
“Employment generation gains momentum when the Government, industry, and youth work together. The initiative reflects a new India where young people receive opportunities, industries receive encouragement, and employment generation becomes a national mission,” the Prime Minister said.
Highlighting the broader vision behind the programme, Modi emphasized that the PM-VBRY is not merely an employment scheme but a transformative initiative designed to strengthen the aspirations of young professionals entering the workforce while creating a strong bridge between industry and talent.
He observed that unlike many schemes that focus solely on either employers or employees, PM-VBRY supports both stakeholders simultaneously by encouraging job creation while providing security and incentives to workers.
The Prime Minister reiterated that over the past twelve years, the Government has consistently strengthened multiple avenues for employment generation across sectors.
He pointed to major initiatives in infrastructure development, innovation, manufacturing, the digital economy, space technology, and startups as key drivers of job creation. Programmes such as Make in India, Vocal for Local, promotion of local products in global markets, and Mission Manufacturing have significantly expanded opportunities for both employment and self-employment, he said.
Emphasizing the importance of social security, Modi stated that the Government is working to connect employment with dignity, protection, and long-term stability. He highlighted efforts to modernize the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), simplify pension systems, and expand access to health insurance and affordable healthcare for millions of workers.
“The same philosophy guides labour reforms undertaken by the Government,” he remarked.
The Prime Minister also underlined the increasing contribution of women to India’s economic growth and social progress. He said reforms related to night-shift employment, work-from-home opportunities, and enhanced workplace safety measures are aimed at further improving women’s participation in the workforce.
Looking ahead, Modi stressed that the 21st century will belong to nations that nurture skilled talent, encourage innovation, and maintain the highest standards of quality.
“Countries possessing these strengths will attract the greatest opportunities, and India has unprecedented potential in all three areas,” he said.
Concluding his address, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that India’s young workforce, supported by progressive policies and industry collaboration, will play a decisive role in building a developed and self-reliant nation under the vision of Viksit Bharat.
