Chandigarh, July 15, 2026 : In a major breakthrough against cross-border terrorism, the Punjab Police on Wednesday busted an alleged terror conspiracy and arrested a man in Amritsar who was reportedly in contact with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) handlers through social media.
According to Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had established contact with cross-border ISI operatives via Instagram and was allegedly receiving instructions to target police establishments and public places with the objective of disturbing peace and public order.
Weapons Recovered
During the operation, Amritsar Police recovered:
- One hand grenade
- One 9mm Glock pistol
- Four live cartridges
An FIR has been registered at the Amritsar Cantonment Police Station, and further legal proceedings are underway.
Investigation Underway
DGP Gaurav Yadav said investigators are working to uncover the full extent of the alleged cross-border network and identify other associates and handlers connected to the case.
Preliminary findings indicate that the accused was being guided by ISI-linked handlers through Instagram to carry out attacks on police installations and public locations in an attempt to disrupt peace and public order.
Punjab Police said the investigation remains ongoing to trace the wider conspiracy, examine digital evidence, and identify any additional operatives involved.
The latest operation comes amid continued efforts by security agencies to dismantle cross-border terror networks and prevent attempts to destabilize law and order in the region.
