JAMMU, AUGUST 09, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained a habitual offender under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) in Kathua and arrested five alleged drug peddlers in separate operations across the Jammu division during the past 24 hours.

🔒 Criminal Detained Under PSA

Police said Davinder Kumar, a resident of Drallan village in Nagri tehsil of Kathua, was detained under the PSA on Saturday following his alleged repeated involvement in criminal activities.

He has been lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.

According to police, Kumar had allegedly been involved in criminal activities for several years and had created a sense of fear and insecurity among local residents.

Three cases have reportedly been registered against him at Kathua Police Station, including two cases related to alleged attempt to murder.

Police prepared his dossier and submitted it to the Kathua District Magistrate, who subsequently ordered his detention under the PSA.

In separate anti-narcotics operations across Jammu, police arrested five persons and recovered suspected narcotic substances from their possession.

  • Sharat Singh was arrested during checking at Ghatti, Kathua, with 6 grams of heroin allegedly recovered from his possession.
  • Mohd Makhan was arrested at Lakhanpur, Kathua, with 7 grams of heroin.
  • Naresh Kumar, a resident of Chhattisgarh, was apprehended during frisking at Hiranagar while allegedly travelling towards his rented accommodation at Kootah Morh. Police recovered 381 grams of ganja from him.
  • Anshu Bhagat was arrested during checking at Badhyal Brahmana in R S Pura, Jammu, with 10 grams of heroin allegedly recovered.
  • Randhir Singh was arrested at Baggar in Assar area of Doda, with 150 grams of charas recovered from his possession.

⚖️ NDPS Cases Registered

Police said cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been registered against all five arrested persons at the respective police stations.

Further investigation is underway to establish the source of the narcotics and identify any wider network connected with the alleged drug trade.

The operations underline the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s continued focus on curbing drug trafficking, dismantling criminal networks and maintaining public safety across the Jammu region.
