NANDED, AUGUST 13, 2026 : Shiromani Akali Dal chief and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal was injured in a knife attack in Maharashtra’s Nanded on Thursday, police said.
According to officials, the incident took place at around 1:45 PM when Badal was visiting Gurdwara Mata Sahib Devan Ji Mugat. A man allegedly approached and attacked him with a knife.
Police have detained one person in connection with the incident, while further details regarding the circumstances and motive of the attack are awaited.
Badal was subsequently rushed to a private hospital for medical treatment, police said.
A video circulating on social media appeared to show Badal walking inside a building with a cloth wrapped around his right hand following the incident.
Earlier in the day, Badal had visited Takht Sri Hazur Sahib in Nanded along with his wife, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who is an Akali Dal Member of Parliament.
Police are investigating the incident and further details are expected as the inquiry progresses.
