NEW DELHI, August 19, 2026: Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel on Wednesday apprehended two Indian passengers at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi for allegedly carrying unauthorised cash amounting to ₹68.53 lakh, officials said.
The two passengers were intercepted during routine baggage screening after CISF personnel detected suspicious contents through an X-ray scanner. According to officials, the passengers were scheduled to travel from Delhi to Guwahati, Assam.
Following the interception, the passengers and the seized cash were handed over to the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Income Tax Department, stationed at IGI Airport, for further investigation and necessary legal action.
Authorities are expected to examine the source and intended use of the cash and verify whether the passengers had complied with applicable regulations governing the possession and movement of large amounts of currency.
The interception highlights the continued vigilance of security and enforcement agencies at major airports to detect and prevent the unauthorised movement of substantial amounts of cash.
Further details regarding the identities of the passengers, the source of the cash and the outcome of the Income Tax Department’s inquiry are awaited.
