SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 17, 2026 ; Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed significant development in infrastructure and the implementation of welfare schemes under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking to a select group of reporters in Srinagar on the occasion of the Prime Minister’s birthday, Sinha highlighted developments in infrastructure, welfare delivery and economic growth, while attributing the changes witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir to the Prime Minister’s leadership.
LG Highlights India’s Economic Progress
Sinha said India’s economic journey from the group described as the “Fragile 5” to the “Top 5” economies has been significant.
He also cited an economic growth rate of 7.8 per cent, while highlighting broader developments in infrastructure and welfare.
“Especially in J&K, I think it is due to the leadership of the Prime Minister,” Sinha said, referring specifically to infrastructure development across the Union Territory.
₹1.5 Lakh Crore Road and Tunnel Projects
The Lieutenant Governor said road and tunnel projects worth more than ₹1.5 lakh crore are currently underway in Jammu and Kashmir.
He also highlighted the completion of railway connectivity to Kashmir, describing it as the fulfilment of a long-standing objective.
The infrastructure push includes major road, highway, tunnel and connectivity projects across the Union Territory.
Welfare Schemes Highlighted
Sinha also referred to several welfare initiatives implemented across the country, including the provision of free foodgrains to around 80 crore people and LPG connections for approximately 11 crore households.
He said these welfare initiatives have also been implemented in Jammu and Kashmir.
PM Modi’s Birthday Programmes in J&K
Earlier in the day, Sinha visited Palaash and Pareesha Child Care Institutions in Srinagar, where he marked the Prime Minister’s birthday with children and distributed gifts.
He also urged people to participate in the month-long programmes being organised to mark the occasion, calling for the celebrations to be made more engaging and meaningful.
The Lieutenant Governor’s remarks come as Jammu and Kashmir continues to see major infrastructure projects alongside welfare and social-development initiatives, with the administration highlighting connectivity and public-service delivery as key areas of focus.
