KYIV, OCTOBER 03, 2026 : A Russian strike damaged Kyiv’s Northern Bridge over the Dnipro River early Saturday, disrupting traffic and adding to transport problems that have affected the Ukrainian capital for a third consecutive day. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the attack damaged the road surface and trolleybus power cables; no casualties were reported in the bridge strike
The attack followed strikes on Kyiv’s Southern Bridge over the previous two days. Authorities said those attacks had already caused the full or partial closure of several major crossings over the Dnipro, creating long traffic queues as commuters sought alternative routes.
Northern Bridge Targeted
The Northern Bridge is an important connection between Kyiv’s left and right banks. Following Saturday’s attack, traffic across the bridge was suspended or restricted while emergency and repair crews assessed the damage.
Russia’s Defence Ministry confirmed responsibility for the strike and said the bridge was being used for troop movements and military cargo logistics. Kyiv has not accepted that justification as a basis for the attack.
The latest strike represents a change in the pattern of attacks on Kyiv’s infrastructure, with several Dnipro crossings now affected within a matter of days.
Wider Russian Attacks
The bridge strike came amid a broader wave of Russian attacks across Ukraine.
The Associated Press reported that Russian attacks in Ukraine killed at least six people in the latest wave, while other strikes damaged residential and civilian infrastructure.
The conflict continues along a front line stretching roughly 1,250 kilometres, while aerial attacks involving missiles and drones remain a major part of the fighting.
Moldova Reports Airspace Violations
The latest attacks also prompted concern in neighbouring Moldova.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu said several Russian air-attack weapons, including missiles and drones, entered Moldovan airspace during the overnight attacks on Ukraine. Moldova reported that some of the weapons exploded on its territory.
Moldovan authorities subsequently reported finding drone debris in several districts. No deaths or injuries were reported from those incidents.
Ukraine and Russia Continue Reciprocal Strikes
Ukraine has also continued drone attacks against targets inside Russia.
In Kaluga region, Governor Vladislav Shapsha said Ukrainian drones damaged residential buildings and that 13 drones had been shot down overnight.
The continuing exchange of long-range strikes comes as both sides target infrastructure and military-related facilities far from the main ground front.
Impact on Kyiv
The attacks on the city’s bridges are creating significant transportation problems because the Dnipro separates Kyiv’s eastern and western sides and the crossings carry substantial daily traffic.
The Northern Bridge damage therefore adds another disruption to a city already dealing with closures and congestion caused by the preceding attacks.
As of October 03, 2026, the cause and extent of the Northern Bridge damage are being assessed, while traffic restrictions and repair operations remain in place.
