Srinagar, October 21, 2026 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday paid solemn tribute to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty on Police Commemoration Day, honouring their courage, patriotism and unwavering commitment to protecting the nation.

Remembering the sacrifices of Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel, the Lieutenant Governor said the valour of the martyrs remained an enduring source of inspiration for strengthening peace, unity and security across Jammu and Kashmir and the country.

He expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen personnel and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to their welfare, dignity and continued support.

‘Nation Must Honour Martyrs Through Action’

Emphasising the responsibility towards families who have lost their loved ones, Sinha said that no financial assistance or recognition could fully compensate for their pain. However, he stressed that the nation must honour the sacrifice of its martyrs through meaningful support and sustained care.

He assured the Jammu and Kashmir Police fraternity that every possible effort would be made to ensure a dignified life and necessary assistance for the families of personnel who made the supreme sacrifice.

J&K Police’s Role in Counter-Terrorism Praised

The Lieutenant Governor praised the Jammu and Kashmir Police for its distinguished record of service under challenging circumstances, including maintaining law and order, combating terrorism and assisting citizens during emergencies and natural disasters.

He noted that thousands of police personnel had sacrificed their lives in the fight against terrorism, describing their courage and dedication as an inspiration for police forces across the country.

Sinha said the police uniform symbolised service, responsibility and sacrifice, adding that the true measure of policing lay in protecting citizens, delivering justice and standing beside society during times of crisis.

Strong Resolve Against Terrorism and Its Support Networks

Reiterating the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism, the Lieutenant Governor called for sustained action against terrorist elements and those who support them.

He urged citizens to uphold national unity, communal harmony and mutual trust while remaining vigilant against forces seeking to disturb peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sinha also underlined the importance of coordinated efforts by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army and the Central Armed Police Forces in safeguarding the country’s security and territorial integrity.

Focus on Women’s Safety and a Drug-Free J&K

The Lieutenant Governor stressed that preventing crimes against women and children, protecting vulnerable sections of society and ensuring timely justice for victims must remain top priorities.

He called for regular reviews of systems for monitoring and preventing such crimes to make them more effective.

Sinha also urged collective action to combat drug trafficking, narco-terrorism and their support networks, reiterating the need to make Jammu and Kashmir drug-free.

Peace and Stability Key to J&K’s Progress

Highlighting the importance of peace and stability in the Union Territory, Sinha said that Jammu and Kashmir had a significant role in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.

He commended the officers and personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army and the Central Armed Police Forces for their courage, discipline and sense of duty, wishing them safety and success in their missions.

The Police Commemoration Day tribute served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by security personnel and the continuing responsibility to protect citizens, support martyrs’ families and strengthen peace across Jammu and Kashmir.
