New Delhi | October 27, 2026 : Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has vowed that the opposition will continue its protest over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resigns or Prime Minister Narendra Modi removes him from office.
Speaking at a Jan Sunwai public hearing in Trilokpuri, New Delhi, Gandhi claimed that 416 voters across just four polling booths had been illegally removed from the electoral rolls. He accused the Election Commission of failing to address concerns raised by opposition leaders.
Joined by CPI (ML) leader Dipankar Bhattacharya and Swaraj India’s Yogendra Yadav, Gandhi alleged that the revision process was depriving ordinary citizens, particularly the poor, of their democratic right to vote.
He further claimed that electoral irregularities were taking place on a wider scale and alleged that the process threatened the democratic rights of millions of Indians.
Gandhi also criticised what he described as an attempt to create a country that serves the interests of a select group of billionaires rather than ordinary citizens.
The central question remains: How will the concerns over voter-list revisions be addressed, and what safeguards will ensure that every eligible citizen retains the right to vote?
