Jammu, July 1, 2025: With just two days left for the commencement of the Amarnath Yatra, hundreds of pilgrims from across the country have reached Jammu for on-the-spot registration, which began Tuesday under tight security arrangements.

The 38-day yatra to the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine in south Kashmir will officially begin on July 3, via the Nunwan-Pahalgam (48 km) and Baltal (14 km) routes. The first batch will depart from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on July 2, flagged off by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Manu Hansa said on-the-spot registration is being conducted at Vaishnavi Dham, Panchayat Bhawan, and Mahajan Sabha, with tokens distributed from Saraswati Dham. For sadhus, a dedicated camp and registration centre has been set up at the Ram Temple, Purani Mandi.

Over 1,600 pilgrims have checked in at the Bhagwati Nagar base camp, while more than 300 sadhus, many arriving after completing the Char Dham Yatra, have reached the Ram temple. Boarding and lodging facilities for over 50,000 pilgrims have been arranged at 106 lodgement centres across the region, from Lakhanpur to Banihal, said Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar.

Pilgrims expressed joy and spiritual fervour.

“This is my ninth yatra. I’m glad to be in the first batch,” said Santokh Singh from Punjab.
“I’m thrilled to receive my registration and begin my journey to Baba Barfani,” added Uma Shakla from Uttarakhand.

To ensure smooth conduct, 180 companies of CAPF — 30 more than last year — have been deployed in Jammu division.

“Multi-tier security is in place to ensure a peaceful and successful yatra,” said IGP Jammu Zone Bhim Sen Tuti.

The annual pilgrimage is expected to see a surge in devotees this year, with arrangements in place to accommodate the growing numbers.
