New Delhi, July 18, 2025: The Income Tax Department has enabled the online filing utility for ITR-2 for the financial year 2024–25. Individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) with taxable capital gains can now file their returns through the e-filing portal using pre-filled data.
“Income Tax Return Form ITR-2 is now enabled for filing through online mode with pre-filled data at the e-filing portal,” the department announced in a post on X.
ITR-2 is applicable to individuals and HUFs who earn income from capital gains but not from business or professional activities. Earlier, the department had activated the online filing for ITR-1 and ITR-4, which are meant for small and medium taxpayers.
The government has also extended the ITR filing deadline for Assessment Year 2025–26. Taxpayers not requiring audit of accounts can now file their returns by September 15, instead of the earlier deadline of July 31.
