Jammu, July 24, 2025 : Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment, and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, on Wednesday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the status of water supply infrastructure across Jammu province, with a strong push for expediting ongoing projects.
The meeting, attended by Chief Engineer PHE Jammu Vikas Sharma, Superintending Engineers Ajay Sharma and Sunil Gandotra, focused on accelerating the execution of water supply schemes, especially those under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
Rana directed officials to prioritise the early completion of these schemes to ensure timely delivery of clean and safe drinking water to all households. He emphasised the need for a swift and efficient response mechanism to address disruptions in the water supply system.
He also stressed regular maintenance and cleaning of water storage tanks to prevent contamination and ensure water quality. Officials were instructed to ensure all filtration plants are fully functional and operating efficiently.
A key focus of the meeting was the adoption of a comprehensive water recharge strategy to enhance the sustainability and long-term availability of water resources.
The Minister further highlighted the urgent need to repair defunct handpumps, which remain vital for many rural communities. Reiterating the UT Government’s commitment to strengthening water infrastructure, Rana urged departments to work in coordination to achieve tangible results on the ground.
