Srinagar, July 26, 2025 : The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has introduced Chapter VII-A to the J&K General Rules (Civil), 1978, establishing a structured framework for handling civil suits involving serving soldiers.
Titled “Suits by or Against the Soldiers”, the newly added chapter clarifies the jurisdiction of civil courts over members of the armed forces. It also includes provisions for exemptions from arrest and attachment of pay, and mandates priority hearings for soldiers who are on leave.
The move aims to ensure that civil litigation does not interfere with the professional duties or rights of personnel serving in the defense forces.
