Jammu, July 29, 2025 : Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Tuesday reaffirmed that the J&K Police is working in line with the guiding principle laid down by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha — “Don’t touch the innocent, don’t spare the guilty.”
“This mantra defines our duty and approach. It is our constant effort to uphold this principle in every action,” Prabhat said while addressing a public function.
The DGP emphasized that the new laws introduced by the government are being gradually implemented and are rooted in a victim-centric approach. “Our objective is to ensure justice—swift, fair, and focused on the victims,” he added.
Outreach and Responsibility
Highlighting the police’s community outreach, Prabhat said, “We stand with the oppressed, the distressed, and those in pain. If someone has no support, the police will stand with them.”
He encouraged his team to aim for excellence, saying, “Policing requires versatility. I tell my officers to strive for achievements as high as a Nobel in Physics or a PhD from a top university. We must become instruments of real change.”
Role of Society in Crime Prevention
Prabhat underlined the importance of public vigilance, stating, “The first line of defense against crime is society itself. We must stop slipping on the same banana peel — we must act before the damage is done.”
Referring to recent job fraud cases, he urged citizens to remain alert and not fall prey to scams.
On Crime and Terrorism
The DGP said the police are committed to combating all forms of crime — from terrorism and drug abuse to organized crime. “Every day is a test for the police, and each day we must earn the trust of the people with results worthy of the highest honors,” he said.
Legal Reforms
Commenting on recent legal reforms, Prabhat said, “New laws are designed to ensure quick action, property seizure of offenders, and timely justice. They represent a shift toward a more efficient, justice-driven system.”
He concluded by stressing that the J&K Police will continue to stand firmly with the people in every battle for justice, peace, and public safety.
