Rajouri/Jammu , July 31, 2025 : Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district have booked four individuals, including a government teacher, for allegedly fabricating a false narrative of police torture and circulating it on social media.
The case stems from a viral photograph showing a man — identified as Mohammad Arif, a resident of Gundi village in Khawas tehsil — with what appeared to be blood on his chin and mouth. It was alleged that he had been brutally assaulted at the Khawas police post, resulting in severe injuries and the breaking of three teeth.
Taking serious note of the claims, the police initiated an inquiry, appointing Superintendent of Police (Operations) Budhal, Wajahat Hussain, to investigate the matter.
According to officials, the probe revealed that the torture allegations were completely fabricated. “It was found that a colouring agent had been applied to Arif’s face to simulate blood and injuries, in an apparent attempt to mislead the public,” a police spokesperson said.
Following the inquiry, an FIR was registered at Budhal police station against Mohammad Arif, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shakil Ahmed, and Mohammad Ashraf—a government school teacher—all residents of Gundi, Khawas.
Police said further legal action is underway, and the investigation will continue to hold those responsible accountable for spreading misinformation and attempting to malign the force.
